Boutique Markets

Firstly I would like to send out many thanks to all who asked after my blog entry a few weeks ago stating that life had been tough. I certainly was down and out but can tell you all I have hitched my socks up again and have a smile on my dial. My gran was 93 years young and is now in a beautiful place with my Pop in peace and out of pain. The memories and influences on my life are so much to be thankful for and I know she will be watching over me always.

The Boutique Markets at Portside greeted us on Sunday with yet another glorious day and even could say 'getting very warm'! With so much on this past weekend around Brisbane it was great to see that the Boutique Markets were still on Brisbane peoples agenda to visit and stroll around the never ending arena of crafty talent.

Mandy at Bailey Belle was first to gain my attention with this gorgeous vintage style dress made out of an old sheet. If it fitted it was mine, and yes it is in my possession. Mandy thinks a lot like me in terms of made from old to new, mine with denim, hers with fashion and amazing must I add. Can't wait to flaunt your creation Mandy, just so cute and comfy.

Taryn Newland was one of my neighbours and if only I had the right spot for this striking and fun print it would be on my walls. I think it is part of my childhood, birthday parties etc but there is something definately that draws me in to hundreds and thousands on bread and to see it presented this way on canvas is truly a vision that is beyond me being behind the lens!!

Moving forward, my next market is at the Handmade Expo on the 26th of Sept, at the Ipswich Turf Club. I have not been out there since early on this year so I look forward to catching up with the many Fabricated followers out that way and look forward to making some new ones.

Hi to the land of blogging. Can't believe it is the 30th tomorrow and its been 20 days since I blogged. I have had a family situation to attend to which has drained me of all motivation and energy. I DON'T EVEN WANT TO MAKE A BAG!!! And that is something I thought would never happen, my mind is elsewhere and it has made me realise just how much of myself I do put into making my Fab Bags. The good thing about this period of time is that I have been able to clean my sweat shop up a bit and create some organisation, while trying to clear my mind and deal with life and death. Every day is a new day, people leave the world and new people arrive. It is times like this that we are reminded how special life is, and how the world around us affects so many facets of our own life. We all should take a moment more often, take a breath, and take a good look around, what do they say, smell the roses!
I send love to my Gran and my Auntie Lorraine.

Unfortunately I did leave my little Denim Boutique and of course I seen just amazing different products so of course I had to spend! After saying hello to Helen at Ruby to go go I spotted hanging at her shop a vintage table cloth that I just had to have. I walked away and then had to buy as couldn't stop thinking how great it would look as a lining of a Fab Bag.

It was Cathy from Peg and Kates Birthday on Sunday so I had to wonder down and give her my birthday wishes only to admire some Retro Toes that just looked amazing up the top of my black knee high boots.

Across from my shop was Mimoo which I could see hanging these little PJ pants and singlet for Georgie who is 18months old. Just so cute....like her!

A few weeks ago Christine from Little Diva posted on her blog these new little racer back singlets with a little fabric frill on the front with matching skirts, well I had to have a set for again Miss Georgie. Just so different and a great price for little people.

I was lucky enough to have my Mum come to market with me last month where she spotted a necklace from the girls at Hemaka, I picked it up for her on sunday, she will be all buttoned out!

I would post a picture of the cupcakes I purchased from Tabitha's but they didn't last long enough to be photographed. The Caramel ones are to die for!!!

The morning of course started coolish but warmed up to a magnificent day, who could say it was winter!! It was also lovely to stroll around and see all the presentation adjustments to many stalls making them all visually outstanding and eye catching.

It was lovely to meet again many new people and sell to some very excited buyers now owners of my Fab Bags.

I also need to say a quick thanks to Lisa from Cute as Buttons for her help with a few little situations I got into with making some yo yos for my bags!! How you girls make these annoying little embellishments all the time I just don't know!! More patience than me!! I got it down to 7 minutes to make one and then found out I had done it wrong.?? How does that happen when you have the instructions and the template to help. I summed it up that some people are meant to make Fab Denim Bags and some people are meant to make yo yo's!!!!!

Also thanks to Maggie from Mags Bags for thinking of me when you were cleaning out your pretties, the scarves will compliment a creation to come for sure.

I Give Up

Yes it is the week before I have a market to attend and guess what....my children are home from school sick!!!! And not just sick, miserable with raging temps, so headaches, dizzy, coughing etc etc etc!!! I swear this happens every August!! And because we have had such a great run with health lately I did not even predict it. But couldn't the bugs come next week? thats not too much to ask , is it!? I am a picture of health at the moment but guess when I will get sick, yes thats right on Saturday, or Sat night or wake up with it Sunday!! I will be there, Portside Hamilton, the Boutique Markets 8am to 1pm. I might not have much stock of Fab Bags but I will be there!!! Of course I take orders! Excuse me while I go and give my eldest a back rub back to sleep after some well needed medicine. Wish me luck for the night ahead. Poor babies.

Found this amazing pair of jeans and of course had to perform the transformation to a Fab Bag! And they were a delight to work with. The colour denim is out of this world and with spring coming you will look like you are wearing the sky on one of our beautiful Queensland days. Don't forget that the scarf or belt can be changed to any belt of scarf to go with your outfit and I might just add that the bag just changes so much and looks like an entirely different bag when you do do this!

As Mum and I were sitting eating our lunch at the Boutique Market, (beautiful Fish n Chips from the Portside Seafood shop, unbelievable) in a quiet moment, should I say scoffing!, she asked the question "what would we do without jeans in our wardrobe"!!! And as we sat and observed there were so many people, men and women and children who were wearing jeans. So thank the lord for jeans otherwise it would not be the world as we know it!!! So many colours, styles, labels, not to mention sizes and fits! And as far as uses other than wearing them.....someone should make bags out of them.

Fabulous Days

My house is clean!! Mum was here over the weekend to help me with the market but she also can't help herself when she gets to our home to CLEAN!! And after a week of just making bags and not doing anything else other than that, there was a lot to be done. Even my seven year old said today, wow the house is looking clean!! What would we do without our mums.

Well yesterday was a great experience with so much exposure and positive feedback and to all of you that now are accessorised with a FAB Bag I wish you as much pleasure with it as I do making them. Some of the bags were hard to part with!! But I made sure they went to suitable homes and loving people. Thank you to all that visited and made our day as successful as it was. My day started with having to buy some of the flowers from Bloomworks Florist. And for the people that know me well of course I had to buy roses....and guess what they actually are fragrant and smell absolutely fabulous. Not many roses I smell these days smell the way they should, but these I can guarantee and for $15 for such beauty I was amazed.

I then went on to pick up a necklace from Helen at Hemaka that I ordered last month. I am not quite sure what she calls it but it has many different little bits on it that makes it very unique, little charms of hearts, thongs, a ladle, a stick boy, and many more special bits, but all I requested was no fish ones!! Don' t know what I have against fish but no fish were present so I just love the necklace and got many comments about it during the day. The day was a lot of fun with my marquee not being empty for many times of the day so I was happy that I was able to scout around and have a quick look before the crowds moved in.

My neighbours Taryn Newland Photography and Earthly Jewels also reported successful days and with a few coffee breaks or should I say guzzles we survived the day fabulously with smiles on our faces and hearts. After Tabithas Place selling out early last month Mum and I were sure to get in early and were behaved to only buy one each. I am sure many of the other stalls also could not resist a reputable cupcake, hard to resist at the best of times!! Whats that hiding behind your Jewels Julie!!

Congrats to Rachael, Leisl for another successful market. It is certainly a great place for a market and with so many amazing Handmadies to show our wares with, it makes for a Fabulous day out. The comments about the Boutique Market from visitors to FARICated were all favourable and complimentry, not to mention asking when the next market is, which of course is same place, same time, on the 9th August.

When is enough enough

When is enough enough. I sit here with a coffee and a piece of my mums cheesecake and ask do I have enough bags made for tomorrows Boutique Market at Portside. Now this is a question I spend most of the day before a market asking myself right up until the tooth picks not longer work with my eyelids. Anticipation is an exciting emotion but also an exhausting one!! Will I have the right colour schemes, do I have enough plainish fab bags to busy fab bags, do I have enough mini fab bags, how can I maximise my exposure of the bags when hanging them??! Honestly will someone tell me the answers!!! And then the day arrives and all runs smoothly, I so appreciate the encouraging comments and purchases, and go home from the market a happy little camper. So what am I worrying about! See you there for a exciting day, have you seen all the retailers, not to mention all that is happening with the Choc and Coffee Festival. My mum is coming with me so I will be able to escape and have a wonder around and admire the amazing crafties and handmadies (as Mickey would say or is it Liesa!!) present.

Balmy Port Douglas

We tried to pack the beautiful sunshine of Port Douglas into our suitcases but unfortunatley it would not cooperate. So after 10 days of swimming and applying suncream we arrived home to 16 degrees and rain! Back to reality aswell. We had a lovely time away and can totally reccommend the Far North as a winter holiday in Australia. Now for back to work...head down bum up and creation cap back on...Fab Bags here I come.

True Religion Jeans

Well today I have been educated. At Boutique Markets just recently a lady walked into my marquee then continued on her merry way. She was wearing a really cool pair of jeans that got my attention straight away. After she left I said to Katie from Evie Rose that the jeans would make a great Fab Bag. Katie informed me that I most probably would never make a bag out of those jeans as they were True Religion Jeans, the lady would have paid a fortune for them and would not be choosing to give them up any time soon to me!! She went on to tell me that they were probably worth $450.00. Now I am not a fashion guru and do not keep up with the brands and neither buy them. I was at Chermside Shopping Centre the other day and after getting my hair coloured (yes I am now sporting a lovely bit too blonde look) I was window shopping past a shop called Universal and there were these jeans. Of course I had to check them out. Katie if you read this they were $600. And I had to try them on. Just to know. And they were fabulous. They even give drooping bottoms a lift!!!! Who needs plastic surgery of the rear area when there is True Religion Jeans in this world. Unfortunately they are still at the shop. I can dream. One day I might just find the jeans at one of my local haunts - Lifeline.
Happy Fashion Wearing to you all. Off to cut up some jeans to make Mini Me Bags for the daughters, just like the one Mum has purchased. Look forward to posting some pics hopefully tomorrow.

No need to be nervous!!

After a few quiet days of cleaning up my sweat shop and reflection of Sunday, I summed up that although I was so nervous at the start, I soon forgot about the nerves and got talking to a few customers with lovely things to say, it was a successful, enjoyable and exciting day out. With the morning starting with about 4 layers and feeling like a stuffed chook might, we all greeted each other with excitment and wonder as to what the day was going to bring. It was so inspiring to be involved in a market with so many talented crafters, I had to stay in my Marquee for fear of spending what I wanted to take home!!!

Right next to me I had Katie with her Evie Rose hair accessories and Christine from Little Diva with all her gorgeous fabric covered goodies for the kiddies. Straight across from me was Tabbitha s Cupcakes which I unfortunately had to watch sellout of all their yummies before I even had a chance to go over and check them out!! I will be first next market!!

It didn't take long to remove a few layers with setting up our displays and marquees, and before we knew it, it was show time. To my amazement the bags that I thought would definately sell didn't and the bags I wasn't so sure about sold!! There you go, you just never know!!The little girls Mini Fab Bags were the first to go with my display sporting some 00 and 000 size jeans, I must admit so cute and hard to resist, and silly-ly enough hard to part with!!!

The day went by so quickly with so many people roaming the showcase of marquees and crafters, and all enjoying what they saw. Being busy helped with my guilt of attending the market instead of going to my childrens school fair and seeing them dance. I WILL be there next year and I am sure my 7 and 5 year old will hold me to that.

I love getting together with all the crafters as you learn what is new in the crafting world. I was so happy for Liesa from Handmade Expo to hear that she has opened a little piece of Heaven called Handmade Heaven stocking a lot of goodies made by many crafters known to all. I wish her every success and am planning my visit after the school hols.

I am already excited about next month with the Boutique Market aligning with the Chocolate and Coffee Festival at Portside 12th July so it will be another market day not to miss.

The gang from Designers Emporium have pressed the play button again and are gathering at Portside Boutique Markets at Hamilton on the 14th June 8am to 1pm. I am so excited to be affiliated with this group of talented creators and am so looking forward to trading on sunday the 14th. From all reports it sounds like a relaxing morning out with friends and time for coffee and shopping amongst products that are not seen every day and every where. I look forward to seeing you all there.

Its been a while

Wow how time flies. Here we are in February and so much has happened. I am still creating my photo albums, memory boards and memory books but also to my range I have added my Fab Bags and for the littlies Mini Fab Bags. These are made from recycled jeans and embellished with pretties of all sorts to create a unique and functional handbag for all to wear, oh and use!! I have started creating a website http://www.fabricatedmemories.com/ which i will keep updated with the new bags I am creating, if I can keep up. I am happy to report that I am receiving an exciting reaction to my bags being for sale and look forward to the year ahead. My new year resolution was to make a bag a day which has been a challenge with the pulls of a young family and all that goes with it, I am not being too hard on myself. I enjoy making the creations far too much to give myself a hard time!! I was selling my products out of the Designer Emporium Boutique Markets which have now pushed the pause button to find a new location so watch this space for an exciting press of play again! So I am now looking into selling at the Young Designers Markets at Southbank in March, Valley markets and I would like to try west end. Have to sign off, can hear a pair of recycled designer jeans just dying to be cut up!!
